Oral Appliance Therapy
Comfortable, Conservative Solutions for Better Health
At Grace Dental, we believe the most effective treatment is often the least invasive. Oral appliance therapy offers comfortable, customized solutions for a variety of conditions, including sleep apnea, teeth grinding (bruxism), jaw discomfort (TMJ), sports protection, orthodontic retention, and whitening.
Every appliance is custom-designed to fit your unique smile, providing a precise, comfortable fit while supporting your long-term oral health. Whether the goal is protecting your teeth, improving sleep, relieving jaw discomfort, or enhancing your smile, we'll recommend the treatment that best fits your needs and lifestyle.
Better Sleep. Better Health.
Quality sleep is essential to your overall health. Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is a common but often undiagnosed condition in which the airway repeatedly becomes blocked during sleep, reducing oxygen levels and interrupting normal breathing. Left untreated, sleep apnea has been associated with high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, chronic fatigue, and other serious health conditions.
As part of our whole-person approach to dentistry, we routinely evaluate patients for signs of airway obstruction and sleep-disordered breathing. If you've been diagnosed with mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea—or are unable to tolerate CPAP therapy—a custom oral appliance may provide a comfortable, effective alternative.
These appliances gently reposition the jaw during sleep to help keep the airway open, reducing snoring and improving airflow throughout the night.
Treatment is always coordinated with your sleep physician to ensure you receive the safest and most appropriate care. If sleep apnea is suspected but not yet diagnosed, we'll help guide you through the next steps toward proper evaluation and treatment.
Protecting Your Smile While You Sleep
Many people clench or grind their teeth without realizing it, often while sleeping. Over time, these excessive forces can wear down enamel, chip teeth, strain jaw muscles, and contribute to headaches, jaw pain, and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders.
Common signs of teeth grinding include:
-
Morning headaches
-
Jaw soreness or fatigue
-
Worn or flattened teeth
-
Chipped or cracked enamel
-
Clicking or popping of the jaw
-
Tooth sensitivity
A custom night guard helps protect your teeth while reducing stress on the jaw joints and surrounding muscles. Unlike over-the-counter appliances, professionally fabricated night guards are designed specifically for your bite, providing greater comfort, stability, and long-term protection.
As part of your examination, Dr. Grace Bauer also evaluates your bite, jaw function, and TMJ health to identify the underlying causes of clenching or grinding whenever possible. Early intervention can help prevent unnecessary tooth wear, chronic discomfort, and more complex treatment in the future.
Our goal is not simply to relieve symptoms, but to protect your smile, improve comfort, and support your overall well-being through conservative, personalized care.
Depending on your individual needs, custom oral appliances may also be recommended for:
-
Sports mouthguards to protect teeth during athletic activities
-
Orthodontic retainers to maintain treatment results
-
Professional whitening trays for safe, customized whitening
-
Bite appliances designed to improve comfort and protect your smile
Every appliance is fabricated specifically for your unique bite, ensuring a comfortable fit and the best possible results.
